The Spiciest Dishes in Singapore: Get Inspired, then Create Your Own
From fiery wings to the spaghetti from hell, we’ve lined up Singapore’s hottest dishes for your tasting pleasure.
While some restaurants pride themselves on serving up the perfect steak tartare, others have made a reputation for delighting (or some would say, torturing) diners with the country’s most fiery, gut-burning cuisine.
If you’re planning on whipping up a seriously spicy dish of your own, we recommend checking out these restaurants and their creations.
Overeasy: Spicy Wings Roulette
Overeasy offers their signature buffalo wings in 4 different levels of spiciness. Order the Spicy Wings Roulette, and find a combination of these wings on your plate – one of them being the fabled “Level 10” wing. And woe is the person who happens to pick this wing among the others on the plate.
One of the key ingredients of this spicy dish is Naga Jolokia – more commonly known as the Ghost Chili – certified by the Guinness World Records as one of the hottest chillies on the planet. Try it for yourself and see if it inspires you to come up with a hot idea for your restaurant.
Coco Ichibanya: Pork Cutlet Omelet Rice
Making a surprising entry into the list is the Pork Cutlet Omelet Rice from Coco Ichibanya. While many Singaporeans love Japanese curry, it’s because of the sweet taste not the spiciness.
If you’re expecting the same from this fluffy omelette served with a crispy pork cutlet though, you’ll be in for a surprise. This curry is infused with fiery spices that’ll knock your socks off. The curries come in different levels of spiciness, however fans of spicy food are encouraged to order the hottest one and experience what is certainly one of the spiciest dishes in Singapore!
Lower East Side: Spicy Tacos
If there’s one thing Mexican cuisine is renowned for, it’s blending a wonderful combination of flavour and spice.
At Lower East Side, spicy food lovers can participate in an “Ultimate Hotness Challenge” – if you manage to finish the restaurant’s spicy tacos drizzled with their signature Level 5 sauce, you get to eat the dish for free!
Southwest Tavern: Spaghetti from Hell
Fans of pasta may think they know pasta, but they don’t know this pasta. The aptly named “Spaghetti from Hell” from Southwest Tavern is part of a challenge – finish this tongue-numbing spaghetti within 10 minutes, and be rewarded with either two beer towers, or a $100 dining voucher.
If the prize sounds too good to be true, it’s only because few challengers ever pass this test. Do so though, and know that you’ll be among a select few to champion Singapore’s hottest pasta!
Lagnaa Barefoot Dining: Spicy Curries
Want to have your name on the wall of fame at Lagnaa? It’s simple, just finish the restaurant’s famous Level 10 curry. Ok, maybe it’s not so simple.
To qualify for the Level 10 challenge, you’ll have to prove your worth by slurping up their Level 6 curry, called “I Dare You”. And if you’re thinking of watering down the challenge with a few glasses of water, the rules clearly state that you’ll need to finish the curry without any beverages. All we can say is… good luck!
ChongQing Grilled Fish: Grilled Fish
This dish is a tasty blend of grilled fish and the classic Sichuan hotpot, and is available in a range of sauces with varying spiciness – from “spicy fragrant” to “spicy numbing”. What makes the dish so special? Besides being hot and spicy, one of the key ingredients is the fiery Sichuan pepper. We hope you won’t bite into by accident; these things explode with hotness!
This dish is known to give diners a tingling, numbing sensation on the tongue and lips. But really, who can turn down a beautifully grilled fish, covered with delicious, spicy red sauce and chili peppers?
Now it’s your turn
If reading this article hasn’t already given you a few ideas on what spicy delight you’d like to introduce to your menu, we’d recommend visiting a few of these places to give their dishes a try.
Then, create your own fiery dish and give your diners something exciting to look forward to (and perhaps even post about on social media)!
